Barry Weckesser, MD, FACC, is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology. His expertise is in echocardiography and cardiac nuclear medicine, and he serves patients at The Heart Institute of Venice in Venice, Florida.
From Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Weckesser moved to the west coast of Florida in 1949. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then completed his internship and residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and his cardiology fellowship at the University of Maryland in College Park.
Dr. Weckesser spent 18 years in the private practice of cardiology in Baltimore, where he served as the director of the Coronary Care Unit at Mercy Hospital. He also spent two years in the Armed Forces as a United States Army Major, including one year in Vietnam.
He holds several affiliations, including with the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, the Florida Medical Association, and the Sarasota County Medical Society.
